use the Karak Highway. Its easy and the roads are wide.
As for weather, rainy season is expected, so becareful when driving up north.
Kelantan can be accessed by road via the East-West Highway which links Gerik in Perak on the west coast, and Jeli in Kelantan.
Federal Route 8 connects Kota Bharu with Central Pahang via Kuala Krai and Gua Musang.
You can also enter Kelantan on the East Coast main road (Federal Route 3) which runs from Johor Bahru in the south to Kota Bharu via Terengganu and the eastern part of Pahang.
I heard it is slightly faster if you take the central route towards Gua Musang (around 8 hours depending on the traffic). Coastal roads are more scenic and Terengganu roads towards Kuantan are much better and wider. You will be slowed down due to the rainy season and be cautious as Malaysian roads are known for collecting water. Drive safely and have fun.
During rainy season, it is advisable to use N/South highway to cut through to Karak Highway and use Kuala Lipis/Gua Musang federal road to Kota Baru…
May take up to 10 hours though…
