Taken from LTA website:
If you are a foreign registered car owner with no In-Vehicle Unit (IU) in your car currently, you can choose not to install an IU.
But something else I am curious about. You mention that you come into Singapore to supervise every week. Are you a PR or EP/WP holder? Coz if you are PR, there is a different offence where you should not drive a Malaysian car in Singapore. If you are entering on a Social Visit Pass, not possible for you to come in so often.
For Malaysia car, you got the right not to install ERP IU Unit. Police got no right to ask you to install IU. if happen again, take drown the Police car No , and make a complaint. PLEASE ! only when you car pass too ERP area, with out IU , photo with car No will be taken , and you need to paid find. ( there will stop you at the causeways check point, no on the road ).However if you don’t have IU , is very inconvenience to you, our express ways, PIE /ECP/AYE/CTE , Mose of the HDB, shopping mall car park need that, no so easy with out that unit ! ** you can buy IU unit at the causeway ( check with ICA people when passport check ),prices at SGD 150.oo with installation . or you can even RENT a unit from ICA at causeway ! if you think you may use it for just few day , rental IU unit need not install , power supply is plug in to cigarettelighter **
